This is one of my favorite treats. Very small, colorful little bits of dessert you can hold in the palm of your hand. Yum. Reminds me of being a kid. What is this marvelous treat? Mochi.
What is Mochi (besides my favorite dessert)? Mochi is ice cream inside of sweet rice dough. The result? Ice cream you can pop in your mouth like grapes. The company that created this sweet treat is Mikawaya, and it’s been a family operation since 1910.
One of my favorite things about Mochi is their flavor variety. You can have a chocolate, strawberry, mango, green tea, vanilla, red bean or even a coffee flavored Mochi. Wow, this making my mouth water. Something else I really like about this little dessert is you can eat it when its really hot outside and still be able to hold it in your hand. How many desserts can do that? Here's a little spin on a classic dessert so you can get your Mochi on.
Toasted Waffle Mochi Ice Cream Sandwich
1 frozen waffle
1/2 tablespoon butter
2-pack of Mochi Vanilla ice cream, slightly thawed
1 tablespoon maple syrup
Throw that waffle in the toaster, spread with butter and cut in half.
Put 2 Mochi Vanilla ice creams on one half of your waffle.
Drizzle the Mochi and your buttered waffle with syrup.
Put the other half of your waffle on top. Press to seal.
There are a lot of ways to enjoy Mochi, so pick up a box and enjoy!
